With true winter weather approaching, please see the notice below.

In addition, at this time the Department of Public Works has completed the branch and leaf collection until the Spring (with the exception of Christmas Trees and leaf bags, which will continue to be collected).

If you have a pile at the curb at this time (branches or leaves), it must be removed to the rear of your property until Spring.  These piles cannot remain at the curb until Spring and can pose a safety hazard to plow operators.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE THE SNOW

SHOVELING

  1. Be careful when shoveling snow. Pace yourself. Do not shovel for more than 15-20 minutes at a time and allow an equal amount of time to rest before returning back to work.
  2. The only way to plow snow is towards the side of the street, inevitably this will mean snow will be pushed up onto the end of your driveway. Yes, it is inconvenient but it is a reality of snow removal. It means that the end of your driveway may get plowed back in as the road crews tidy up the roads. This is not done intentionally but cannot be avoided. The Township is not responsible for opening individual driveways up.
  3. Residents and business owners with sidewalks on their property are responsible for the maintenance of that sidewalk, including snow removal. This is important so that everyone has a safe place to walk.
  4. If you have a fire hydrant on or near your property please give our volunteer firefighters a hand and clear the snow around the hydrant. It is greatly appreciated, and in the case of an emergency, just might help save your home or that of your neighbor!
  5. When removing snow from your sidewalks and driveways please do not throw it, blow it or plow it back into the street. This makes the DPW’s job more difficult. Pushing/plowing snow onto Township roads is prohibited. Please advise your contractors. This could create an unnecessary safety hazard.
  6. Be sure to clear snow away from dryer and other utility exhaust vents and make sure you have a functioning carbon monoxide and smoke detector in your residence or business.
  7. Before starting your vehicle be sure to remove snow from around your automobiles exhaust pipe. Failure to do this will cause a buildup of carbon monoxide within your vehicle. Removing the snow from the top of your vehicle is important as well – failure to do this can cause an accident with flying and blowing snow behind you as you drive and is against the law.

PLOWING

  1. Please DO NOT call the police department or dial 9-1-1 asking about the status of plowing on your street.
  2. Don’t be surprised if one side of your road is plowed and the other side not for a considerable time later.  DPW plows the center of the roads for passage and will come back as weather permits and will plow curb -to-curb. This is done per plan and is a way to plow the route in the shortest possible time.  The DPW will be back to complete the job once all the roads are opened.
  3. To the extent that you can, please make certain that you keep vehicles off the road when snow is expected. This makes plowing more efficient and thorough.
  4. If you park your vehicle at the end of your driveway, when snow is expected, make certain that your vehicle is back far enough so that it does not interfere with our plows.
  5. When removing snow from your sidewalks and driveways please do not throw it, blow it or plow it back into the street. This makes the DPW’s job more difficult. Pushing/plowing snow onto Township roads is prohibited. Please advise your contractors. This could create an unnecessary safety hazard.
  6. Although we are always very careful plowing the roads, some damage may occur to mailboxes when the wet, heavy snow or ice that is thrown by the plows hits the mailboxes. Township ordinance allows for up to $50.00 replacement or repair per mailbox. Please report any mailbox damage to us in writing or by phone within 36 hours.
