Court

Municipal Courts are statutory courts of limited jurisdiction and have responsibility for hearing motor vehicle traffic violations, disorderly and petty disorderly criminal offenses, municipal ordinance violations, certain penalty enforcement codes, health code violations, fish and game, weights and measures, and all other proceedings within the territorial jurisdiction of the municipality. A Municipal Court usually has jurisdiction only over cases that occur within the boundaries of its municipality. Serious criminal cases, such as robbery, auto theft, or assault, may start out as complaints filed in the Municipal Court but are transferred to the Superior Court located at the county courthouse.
