To help you protect your family and neighbors, we provide below some simple actions that you can take right away. Most Importantly, Report Suspicious Activity Immediately! If you see a suspicious person or vehicle, contact the Police Department without delay at (732) 968-1188 or dial 911 in the event of an emergency. Even if you think it might not be significant, it is better to report it to the police rather than just posting it on social media or a community page. Below are additional actions that all residents can take to protect one another: • Make your home look occupied and difficult to break in by illuminate your home. Beginning at sunset, leave both interior and exterior lights on whether your home is occupied or not. • Secure your vehicle. Always remove key fobs and garage door openers from your vehicle. Lock the car doors. If possible, park your vehicle in the garage overnight. • Activate your alarms. Always set your home and vehicle alarms. • Do not leave vehicles running and unattended. Never leave a running vehicle unattended. Never leave valuable items, such as purses and wallets, inside the vehicle and visible from the outside. • Protect valuables. Do not keep large amounts of cash at home. Secure jewelry or other valuables. • Check your security cameras. Test and confirm that your security cameras are functional and properly positioned to monitor key areas. • Lock all doors and windows in your home, and keep garage doors closed and locked. • Install deadbolts on exterior doors. Place a secondary locking device on sliding glass doors, such as a door stop lock or a bar in the sliding track. • Remove all packages delivered to your home as soon as possible. Activate electronic delivery notifications so you know when packages arrive. • Remove garbage and recycling cans from the street soon after pickup. • Remove mail from your mailboxes daily. • Keep your cell phone nearby. Have your phone within reach, so you can quickly contact the police if needed. • Spread awareness. Share this information with friends, family, and neighbors.
